Developing Leaders Notes

Date: 4-11-18

Session Title: Data! Data! Data!

Focus Area:

MAASE Focus Areas:

We will align and organize the strategic priorities and work of MAASE to focus on the following elements:

High Quality Student Evaluations

Specially Designed  Instruction

Skilled Staff

Program Evaluation

Through the platforms of:

Association Partnerships

Legislative Action and Advocacy

Professional Learning

Membership Services

EdCamp is an open format where group members share thoughts to help one another in implementation of "real life" practice. These notes reflect the thinking of someone in the group but do not represent an official position on behalf of MAASE. Anyone using this as a resource is encouraged to use their best judgement in interpreting the suggestions.

MAASE EdCamp Format:

Clarify the Problem of Practice to Solve

Collaborate around the Problem of Practice by offering suggestions and resources

Give feedback to the committee on how to improve next time

Notes:

-How we do a lot accommodating, but not as much instruction

-How are we teaching our teachers to use data to guide instruction?

-A lot of our supports (especially from a SE lens) is about supporting behavior, less instruction

Data Dialog - Core teams that look through a scripted process

-Asking - what can we impact within our control? (Quadrants of high/low impact)

-Not having SE/GE conversations, but ALL student conversations

SRSS (Student Risk Screening Scale) @ Elementary Level - Balance between academic and socio-emotional

Using the evaluation data to impact student learning of all students

Using John O’Connor’s book K-8 with ancillary staff (Great Instruction Great Achievement)

-i.e. chapter 4 specialized instruction

-give staff 30 minutes to read in PD

-staff having epiphanies about “differentiation” and “scaffolding”

-Data is also involved in this chapter

Using ED Benefit to review data

-identifying goals that are compliance based instead of skill based

-using data in the referral process (for center based)

Look at multiple data points - not just IEP goals

Data Tools:

-Possible Brigrance

-MOVE program

-ULS (Unique Learning Systems)

-Communication Matrix

-Transition Assessment

-Teacher Analysis of the Data Points

-AIMS Web

-Benchmarking with NWEA

Schedules

-Create specials - teacher planning time (i.e. grade level)

-Bi-weekly in PLC groups (after school 90 minutes)
