The purpose of this workgroup is to provide implementation guidance for the determination of specific learning disabilities within the State of Michigan. For the purpose of disseminating information to the membership to be uilized when developing local district procedures and practices relative to the determination of specific learning disability information is grouped into six broad areas. Each of these six area must be reviewed, discussed, and documented prior to a determination of specific learning disability. The six ares are:

  1. Evaluation Planning
  2. Under Achievement relative to curriculum standards
  3. Appropriate Instruction
  4. Observation of Student
  5. Decision Making
    1. Response to Scientific Research-Based Interventions
    2. Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses
  6. Exclusionary Clause Considerations

Decision Making

Decision making involves a process of anaylsis and documentation of existing information in a response to scientific research-based interventions. Data that has been collected is reviewed and decision are made relative to potential eligiblity.

 

Decision making involves a process of assessment or data collection to determine a pattern of strengths and weaknesses.
